What is LED Light Therapy?
LED Light Therapy is a popular treatment for a range of skin conditions. The LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, and as the name suggests it delivers various wavelengths of light to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process. Working at a cellular level, the healing light helps to increase collagen production, stimulate blood flow and reduce the signs of ageing, giving the skin a gratifying glow.
LED light therapy is effective as a stand-alone treatment and is often performed in a course of six to ten sessions. It is also famous for its ability to enhance treatment results from lasers and cosmetic injectables, producing a synergistic effect and minimising bruising or redness associated with some advanced treatments.
What can LED Light Therapy treat?
Evidence suggests LED can help treat a variety of skin conditions, with benefits ranging from cosmetic concerns to aiding in recovery for burn victims, helping to accelerate wound healing and even assisting with the treatment of some skin cancers.
At Pamper, we use LED Light Therapy to treat:
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Mild to moderate acne and acne scarring
- Soothe inflammation and redness from conditions like rosacea, eczema and psoriasis
- Minimise bruising, redness and aid in the rejuvenation process from some advanced treatments
Benefits of LED Light Therapy
Our clinicians can tailor your LED treatment to address your skin concerns. LED light therapy uses different wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin at various depths.
- Blue light (415nm) is commonly used to treat mild to moderate acne. The blue light neutralises acne-causing bacteria, helps control oil production, eases inflammation and promotes healing.
- Red light (633-660nm) permeates through to the epidermis, stimulating collagen production, plumping and hydrating the skin, and helping to reducing inflammation. Blood flow increases, leading to greater tissue oxygenation and detoxification. Post-treatment benefits include clearer skin with fewer fine lines.
- Near infrared light (830nm) penetrates the skin the deepest layers of the skin, working to reduce inflammation at a cellular level. This helps promote faster healing and soothes irritated or sensitive skin. Near-infrared light therapy is particularly effective for targeting conditions such as rosacea, eczema and post-treatment redness. Our clinicians often recommend near infrared light to accelerate recovery, reduce swelling and enhance the overall health of the skin, leaving it calmer and more balanced.
At-Home LED Devices
Recently, there has been a boost in the number of at-home LED light devices on the market. These devices claim to offer the same benefits as professional LED machines, however due to regulatory requirements in Australia they simply cannot offer the same level of power output as those offered in clinic. As a result, it takes much, much longer to reap the same benefits and without the experience of a qualified clinician, this can make it even more difficult to achieve your skin goals.
Our experienced team of cosmetic doctors, nurses and dermal therapists select the most appropriate settings for your skin condition and skin goals. They can also offer professional advice and craft a personal treatment plan for you to help you on your journey to healthy skin.
What to expect during an LED light therapy treatment?
An Pamper LED treatment will always start with a consultation. Here, our clinicians will ask you to explain your concerns and what you’re hoping to achieve from your treatment. This helps select the best settings for your skin condition and make recommendations on complementary treatments and skincare.
In preparation for your treatment, your clinician will cleanse the face or treatment area and provide you with eye protection. The treatment itself is very relaxing, meditative experience and many clients find themselves taking a short nap. You might feel a warming sensation, but no pain or discomfort.
After your treatment, our clinicians will remove the eye protection and apply moisturiser and sunscreen, protecting you as you go about your day.
How many treatments do I need?
As a stand-alone treatment, a single LED session can provide an instant glow and some soothing and anti-ageing benefits. However, LED really shines when performed consistently over a course of six to ten treatments or as advised by your treating clinician. As LED does not output any ultraviolet rays and has minimal risks associated with correct use, LED treatments can even be performed daily to accelerate healing.
Is there any downtime?
There is no downtime with LED light therapy – the treatment is quick (15-30 minutes) with no recovery time, making it suitable for a “lunchtime” session or to squeeze in before your next big event for a last-minute glow.
Is LED light therapy safe during pregnancy?
Yes! LED light therapy is a pregnancy-safe skin treatment and can help you manage changes in the skin through your pregnancy journey.
