What is Slow Release Platelet Rich Plasma Face Lift and how does it work?

Platelet Rich Plasma has been trending over the past few years, as patients seek less invasive procedures for skin rejuvenation.

Our blood is made up of four components: red blood cells, white blood cells, the plasma and the platelets.  The blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge, which enables the separation of the blood cells from plasma and platelets. In the body, platelets play a role in stopping bleeding and in repairing damaged blood vessels, they also contain “growth factors” which aid the repair and regeneration of tissues, supporting a range of aesthetic indications.

The procedure

Depending on the treatment area, a volume of blood will be taken. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge for around 8-10 minutes. Once the cells have separated, the rich platelet layer is extracted and re-injected into the treatment area using the fractionated pattern of microneedles to drive the PRP into the dermal-epidermal junction.

The PRP therapy has an effective delivery application to easily penetrate the surface of the skin and jump start the rejuvenation process. The treatment is easily administered and there is virtually no clinical downtime. PRP harnesses the beneficial functions of the patient’s own platelets and therefore there is no risk of allergy or rejection of the treatment. This treatment can help patients with all skin types and is a corrective and preventative therapy to treat fine lines and wrinkles, manage acne scars or scars from other injuries, improve skin texture and color, reduce stretch mark appearance and stimulate new collagen growth.

Most patients will experience some mild swelling, redness or heat, which are common side effects and are part of the treatment, bruising may occur in some individuals and may take a couple of days to disappear.

Most patients will require three treatments at four to six week intervals. The first thing patients notice is an improvement in skin appearance and elasticity. Collagen production can take up to three months to occur and the results can differ depending on the individual.
